The Montgomery County Medical Society Foundation was established on May 5, 1964, with initial funding coming from a surplus that rose from the Sabin Oral Vaccine (polio) Immunization Program conducted throughout Montgomery County in the Fall of 1963. The surplus resulted because the voluntary donations of those immunized exceeded the expense of the program. The medical society leadership strongly believed those public donations should be returned to the community and established the foundation to distribute grants annually to charitable organizations that service the improvement of the mental and physical well being of Montgomery County residents.
