The Montgomery County Medical Society Foundation recently distributed more than $6,000 to 11 nonprofit agencies in Montgomery County.
“Each year, we are honored to give to our community in this way,” said H. Tom Tamaki, MD, chair of the society foundation distribution committee. The committee reviews all applications and makes recommendations to the medical society board for approval. “It’s a small gesture to say thank you to the many organizations that provide much-needed services in our community.”
For more than 40 years, the medical society foundation has distributed grants to requesting organizations. The Foundation was established in 1964 with donations from the Polio Immunization program conducted throughout Montgomery County. The Montgomery County Medical Society strongly believed those public donations should be returned to the community. With those funds, the medical society established the foundation to distribute grants annually to charitable organizations that provide services to improve the mental and physical well being of Montgomery County residents.
“Each of your organizations helps every Montgomery County physician provide competent and compassionate medical care,” said Frederic S. Becker, president of the Montgomery County Medical Society. Dr. Becker, along with Dr. Tamaki and H. William Schmidt MD recently greeted representatives from the various organizations to thank them.
“Although, you come here and thank us, we owe you all the thanks. This community is fortunate to have such organizations to serve those in need.”
The following organizations were each awarded grants: American Cancer Society Relay for Life, Contact Greater Philadelphia, Developmental Enterprises Inc., HealthLink Medical Center, Interfaith Hospitality Network-Main Line, Literacy Council of Norristown, Montgomery County Association for the Blind, National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Retired & Senior Volunteer Program, Victim Services Center and Volunteers in Action.
