The foundation gave its first grants in February 1965. Since the foundation’s inception, the co-chairpersons have been Dr. H. Tom Tamaki MD and Dr. Frank Tornetta MD. For many years, both have served in various leadership capacities with MCMS, including president of MCMS. Unfortunately, Dr. Tornetta passed away in 2010.
“Each year, we are honored and privileged to give to our community in this way,” said H. Tom Tamaki, MD, chair of the society foundation distribution committee. The committee reviews all applications and makes recommendations to the medical society board for approval. “It’s a small gesture to say thank you to the many organizations that provide much-needed services in our community.”
