Howard F. Pyfer Fund

The Montgomery County Medical Society distributes reimbursement grants to eligible members who complete continuing medical education courses. Howard F. Pyfer, a graduated of Jefferson Medical School in 1897 and a Norristown physician and resident, makes this valuable benefit of medical society membership possible.

Dr. Pyfer was an active member of the medical society and the first editor of the Medical Bulletin of MCMS. His will provided that, after his wife’s death, monies from his estate would be used to establish an educational fund. In 1934, the fund was created. MCMS members under the age of 45 are eligible for a maximum reimbursement of five hundred ($500) dollars. Reimbursement will be considered only for CME courses taken with in the calendar year, January through December, preceding the January deadline for submitting applications.

In 2010, $7,157 was awarded to 16 physicians. Applications are accepted through May.  For more information on how to apply for the reimbursement grant, contact MCMS’s executive director, 610-878-9530 or e-mail, montmedsoc@verizon.net.

All interested members must submit a completed application and appropriate documentation on or before Jan. 9, 2012.
